Ersta Hospital Project

Ersta Hospital: Sustainable Design Meets Patient-Centered Care with Flokk’s Innovative Seating Solutions

Our commitment to sustainability took center stage in the development of Stockholm’s new Ersta Hospital, a forward-thinking healthcare facility focused on patient-centered care.

Collaborating with renowned interior designer Emma Olbers and architectural firm Tengbom, our role in the project was pivotal, providing seating that aligns with both the hospital’s eco-conscious approach and its commitment to enhancing patient well-being.

Spanning 23,000 sqm with rooms for 90 patients, Ersta Hospital is a private, non-profit institution dedicated to creating a leading care environment that advances medical development. Every aspect of the space is thoughtfully designed to prioritize patient comfort, efficient space utilization, and ease of navigation for patients, staff, and visitors.

A Commitment to Sustainable Design

Emma Olbers, celebrated for her expertise in sustainable interiors, brought her vision of an eco-friendly, homelike atmosphere to Ersta. Using natural materials and incorporating the urban landscape into the hospital design, the project achieves a calming, nurturing environment that aligns with sustainability goals. With Flokk’s extensive range of Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)-certified seating, Olbers and her team were able to assess the exact carbon footprint of each piece, making informed decisions to meet the hospital’s low-emission standards.

Innovative Seating for Varied Spaces

The Flokk seating solution, designed for diverse areas of the hospital, includes five models that promote both ergonomic comfort and environmental responsibility:

  • RH Mereo: With 156 chairs across the facility, RH Mereo provides ergonomic support for staff in various settings, ensuring comfort during long shifts.
  • HÅG Tion: Featured in meeting and social areas, the HÅG Tion offers compact, easily adjustable seating, ideal for shared spaces with high turnover.
  • HÅG Capisco Puls: Made from recycled snowplow markers, this chair’s open, versatile design is perfect for dynamic environments like physio and scanning rooms, promoting freedom of movement.

Our role at Ersta Hospital highlights the power of sustainable, thoughtfully designed interiors in enhancing patient care and supporting a greener future. Through the careful selection of materials and an emphasis on ergonomic excellence, Emma Olbers has created an environment where patients and staff alike can thrive.
